Minister - Revd. Kenneth L. Petrie

Hello! I am Kenneth Petrie and as minister at Craigiebuckler Parish Church, Aberdeen, I would like to introduce myself. I was born in Dundee in 1958 and was educated at Morgan Academy and Dundee University from which I graduated M.A. in 1980. I then went onto study Divinity at New College, Edinburgh graduating in 1983 with a B.D. from the University of Edinburgh.

In 1980 I married and my wife and I have two children.
After graduation we moved to Skene, on the western edge of Aberdeen, where I was assistant minister 1983 – 85. In 1985 I was Called to be minister of the South Church, Stonehaven, which in 1990 linked with the Parish of Kinneff. After fourteen years in Stonehaven the family moved to Aberdeen when I was Called as minister at Craigiebuckler in 1999.

My interests and hobbies include: Singing, I am a pupil at the North East of Scotland Music School and a member of Aberdeen Choral Society, I also sing with a group of friends in a small concert party; gardening; walking the dog; I am a member of the Board of Directors of Voluntary Service Aberdeen; and a Trustee of the Old Kirk, Kinneff.

Mission Statement

As a Parish Church of the Church of Scotland Craigiebuckler sees its role as reaching out to our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ. This we seek to do by serving our community in Christ’s name and trying, as best we can, to meet the needs of the community. We have a wide range of groups and organisations some of which meet throughout the year, and some of which meet for a few weeks, eg Bible Study, and Adult Education Courses.

Our Sunday service, at 11.00am, is attended by a large congregation of all ages and attempts to provide worship in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. As well as our regular Sunday Services we also have services at other times which give an opportunity to worship in a variety of different styles. During Holy Week we have a series of short, contemplative, evening services; on Good Friday the Church is open from 12 noon – 3p.m. for quiet reflection and meditation, there are short services held mid-week during Advent, and a series of Songs of Praise evenings held during the year.

As a congregation of God’s people it is our hope to see the work of God carried on in our congregation, our parish, and the wider church, in Scotland and beyond, seeking to know God’s purposes for us and in whatever way we can to support His work.
