The Children at Christmas performance in 2007 was Round the Back and it set a new standard which future productions will hope to emulate. This is based on the book "Jesus' Christmas Party" by Nicholas Allan. It tells the Christmas story from the perspective of a grumpy innkeeper. During the night the innkeeper receives many visitors who totally disrupt any hope he had of enjoying a good night's sleep. Only when he has finally had enough does he realise how special the night has been.
Round the Back was performed with great enthusiasm by a very talented cast. Hannah and Matthew as Mary and Joseph did well with their solos on "Long Ago and Far Away" and all the songs were performed brilliantly. The remaining cast played their parts very well and Mr Petrie as the grumpy innkeeper was very convincing. The narration of Round the Back was excellently done by Kara and Ollie who had a long and at times tricky script to work with.
This was the third Children at Christmas with Gordon Cooper as Musical Director and I think he has now lost count of the total number he has been involved with! A large number of people are involved in producing Children at Christmas with rehearsals beginning at the start of November. Special thanks to everyone who helped with the costumes on the day of the performance and a huge thank you to everyone else who was involved.
